I met this really condescending kid in a mental hospital once who believed that Stalin was great, that a ton of genocides were fabricated by the west, along with a more general praise for communism and the Soviet Union.

So, is that what this place is? I know it's on the nose but I promise this story is true and that I'm not just shitposting, I am just genuinely curious because if there is an entire community of people like him who think that they've got it all figured out, that would be incredible.

Here's a question for you: what do you imagine would have happened in the Soviet Union and in China if the Communists hadn't taken power?

Would they not have had famines? Would people not have been persecuted for their beliefs? Would their domestic capabilities have developed more rapidly?

I'm being earnest. I know they're not from here but they found this place all the same. They also chose here for this post instead of lemmygrad which is probably more Stalinist than here since they don't have nearly the anarchist presence we do. This person is baffled by something they didn't know existed, people who actually don't trust the yankee narrative of history in the world.

I guess I am, in a way. I'm not a yank, to be clear, and I'm not hankering to suck off Uncle Sam, I just find places like this interesting because of the perspectives they provide. Not every conversation has value, but they can be fun to look at from afar.

"fun" as in interesting and thought provoking, not funny haha. I don't get my kicks from looking down on people I disagree with, I'm not some self fulfilling prophecy on arrogance. I posted here out of intrigue, not to dunk on you because we have different opinions.

I don't, because, yaknow, I'm a person but the unbridled confidence of that kid was something I imagine reverberates in this line of thought. Could be very wrong, of course.

Well, on one hand kids are kids, sure of everything they do until it crashes. On the other hand is probably a decent understanding of Marxist economics and politics (not strictly (or often) electoral) in general. With that person you met there could be any number of reasons why they were like that.

You do need to be more specific about the claims of genocide fabrication. That wording has an indeterminate meaning that could range from post-war Nazi propoganda of "Double Genocide" to things I might argue were genocidal done by the West at large like the Korean or Vietnamese wars.

what makes you so certain you have "it" more "figured out" than he does?
