Not sure if any of you listen to ChapoTrapHouse. It's a podcast by a couple leftists from New York. Anyway, one of the biggest criticisms I've heard of the chapos has been how defeatist they are, and listening to the most recent episode that really came through to me. The outlook for the future is fucking bleak for leftists, but I don't think wallowing in that is productive. Sure it can be funny, but with such a large platform I think it is a waste to use it just to bitch.

I think that's the biggest schism between Chapo and Black Faith, and it's kinda why I've been appreciating Virgil and Brie a bit more recently. They've been platforming leftists, hosting events for the DSA, and it just seems like they're trying to bloom in an otherwise shitty time.

Looking at the future, it's incredibly bleak. Self-talk positivity might have its place but it's no more rational than pessimism (and arguably less).

The best case scenario is that the left builds local and then state power over the next 20-30 years, grabbing a few more House seats here and there, and maybe then becomes a real force in national politics. (20-30 is... generous.) Thing is... there might not be a civil American society as we know it to save by then. We're past the tipping point on climate change already - a generation ahead, we're past the tipping point on food riots and wars over potable water.
