For me it was Andrew Bird (who I am currently on a binge of) and Fleet Foxes.

To a lesser extend, Radiohead and the Flaming Lips. Though I mostly just didn't care about them until I was older.

Literally, just listen to whatever songs you want like, once a day or something. That's what I did with Guillotine; I absolutely hated it for about a month, then after that period I turned it once a few times (since it kept popping up in my recommended), then it slowly stayed on my mind, and eventually I was seeking it out (but still disliking it, despite not being able to stop thinking about it), and then I listened again and was in love.

I just can’t understand the appeal of Death Grips. How do I listen to them?

Yeah that's how it started with all of us buddy. The others are right, you find some of their songs that you think are kinda interesting (you don't necessarily like it, but you think it's interesting or funny or whatever) and then you listen to them every now and then. For me the song that clicked first was Black Paint. I think most people liked some songs by TMS or ExMilitary first, like Get Got, Guillotine, I've Seen Footage, the Fever, Takyon, etc, or maybe On GP which is kind of a different flavour from a lot of their other songs and more emotional. It does infect your brain.

I think the proximity between clipping and DG is way overstated, especially for anything after Midcity. Like, they're both "noisy hip hop" but that's as far as it goes.

I mean I do like both of them, but sometimes I think it's, no offense, Fantano fans seeing a black guy and two whites guys and getting confused.
