China successfully landed a probe on the moon today. This was the first successful lunar probe mission in over 40 years.

Regardless of your opinion on China, take a moment to appreciate how fucking cool that is.

Fucking sad that there exist a possibility where Japan and Korea could have turned red if things had happened a little differently. We could have had a Red East Asia Bloc to oppose against Western hegemony :sadness:

It really is remarkable how ruthlessly the USA exploited every circumstance possible throughout the 20th century to kneecap everyone. Their intervention against the Nazis and the lend-lease program are incredible anomolies.

theyre significantly less anomolous when you consider they were actions taken with the explicit purpose of pushing the country out of the great depression through industrial activity by putting everything on a war-footing.

the massive mobilization of the economy indisputibly worked as planned. that they were fighting nazis was really somewhat secondary, and had those in charge felt the country would have been better served by continuing to play both sides as armsdealers, as they had been, they would have

thanks, i once wrote a paper about the u.s transition to "interventionism" as an economic policy that my history teacher didnt like.

apparently what actually happened is the u.s was super altruistically playing world police and then the dirty commies blew themselves up in korea.

USA involvement in WW2 is basically what created the "allies", without that Europe would not be doing the bidding of the USA so much, or be hosting so many American military bases.
Remember that Eastern Europe was also socialist for a time, so their presence is in line with actions in East Asia.

UK also had value to the USA in terms of spreading the English language, and this makes it much easier for the USA to spread their propaganda and do business.
Not sure they were thinking that far ahead though.

I think the most horrifying example has to be that the CIA so thoroughly fucked the post-war Japanese government that they were keeping US Nukes on Japanese soil in the 1950s. Absolute psycho levels of cruelty.
