listen, if harry potter is a comforting nostalgia read for you, have at.

as long as you can view the work your reading as separate from the author, its a pretty innocuous kids series. and if you ignore the epilogue, you can even pretend the protag-gang went on the affect necessary material changes rather than just murdering magic-hitler and calling it a day

its more antisemetic dogwhistling than outright antisemitism. anyone unfamiliar with the tropes wouldnt read the.. goblins? gnomes? i forget. as being coded jewish stereotypes.

i certainly didnt when i was seven

yeah for sure, in retrospect its definitely got some uhhh problematic depictions.

but most kids books do tbh, because they reduce things into simplistic terms rather than presenting complex analysis. soo... meh.

Idk that it's so much about reduction as reflecting the author's biases and culture, unconscious or otherwise

I didn't expect an actual response to my trolling, but I appreciate the thought you gave to me assuming I had posted in good faith.

i didnt assume it was a good-faith post, i just dont see a reason to knock anyone for wanting to read something they enjoyed as a kid when they need some warm fuzzy feelings.

plus its a good joke and deserves some kind of response.

in conclusion: sink terf island :transshork-happy:
