Title. Sorry for posting this and I encourage you not to waste time wallowing in my annoyance, but I am sick to fookin death and this is the only place I've found solace recently, even though you're all libs too.
She cuts off my explanations before I've even got to the point I'm actually fucking making with "but everything is about balance". Every. Single. Time.
She completely fetishises salaries and mentions high salaries every chance she gets (for context she's on a 6 figure and surrounded by wealthy liberals), often stopping a conversation critiquing some group of people to point out that "they make shitloads of money though", then laughs.
She defends the enforced use of expensive crops patented by Western billionaires in the global south as "a good thing if it's better for those people and that land" while ignoring the evidence I raise that it's not, makes the argument we need more philanthropists to solve everything, and whenever I criticise this bullshit for the imperialism that it is I'm dismissed with the fact I'm "too young" to understand and need more " life experience" (I'm in my late 20s).
She defends cunts on the TV when I point out how they've used their power to fuck poor people because "they employ loads of people though".
And other Top Hits™ that I'm sure you can extrapolate from the rest.
This is probably just normal lib shit to the people exposed to them on a daily basis but all my friends and people I've lived with for the last 8 years are all based commies even if they don't know it, so this is the first time I've had to live with a lib every single day and I want to perpetually scream until everyone in the nearby area has moved away because of the weird screaming man. Oh yeah, she also worships the US democratic party and Kamala's #girlpower. We live in the EU. I cannot fucking wait to leave this hellscape.
Edit: Forgot one of the things which brings my piss to a rolling boil. Because she sees herself as sole arbiter of objective truth, whenever I say something she agrees with she sharply says "correct", and will repeat it continuously through an extended point.
One of the biggest middle class lib/conservative fears is that all their "hard earned income" is going to subsidize welfare queens which will only further embolden them to suckle on the welfare teet.
They'll defend the system because they've followed the rules and are doing ok-- so why can't other people? Also, they haven't personally been burned by capitalism yet (like simply having a major medical problem).
They see these big business stars like Musk and Bezos as aspirational. As more efficient in "solving problems" than the red tape government. Again, more survivor bias. Theyll never actually step foot in an Amazon warehouse. As long as they are willingly ignorant about slaughterhouses, they can still enjoy their hot dog guilt-free.
If you are ever hoping to change someone's opinion, you have to find common ground. If you accuse someone of being wrong (even if they are), the accused will automatically become defensive, and only further entrench themselves in their opinion.
Take like a maga chud-- usually completed dismissed by smarmy libs as a backwoods, uneducated hillbilly, completely beneath them. But they never really look at why someone might latch onto their ideology in the first place.
Maybe this maga guy lives in a small rural town with crumbling infrastructure, some low wage jobs but no real careers and it's depressing as hell so half the town is hooked on alcohol and opioids to cope.
Enter Trump, who speaks like them, says its not your fault for personal or institutional failure (its Mexicans or Islams or democrats), and promises to return America to its glory days.
Even though your town is just as bad as it was four years ago (if not worse), you maybe don't want to admit you got grifted. Because its embarrassing and shameful. You feel stupid for not seeing it. Have you ever been scammed in real life, even over like $20? Its not a good feeling.
So you double down on lies you tell yourself because its easier than admitting you might've been wrong. Its the same mentality with cults. It's easier to believe low effort qanon posts than do any self reflection. And speaking out might get your ostracized by your tribe. Not much different than libs being grifted by Obama.
Some of the core fears and concerns around the maga chud aren't much different than a leftist-- political parties that have abandoned the working class, an anger over the widening divide between the rich and the poor with an eroding middle class, and a very bleak dystopian future.
The same is true for libs, just in other capacities. For middle class libs who still think they'll one day be rewarded by their "hustle hard" Instagram posts, a big talking point is student debt. Most of those 4 year degrees were backed by loans that seem impossible to pay off. Its a great common ground for the start of a conversation-- we're more alike than different, and although you might be "comfortably poor", it wouldn't take much to put you in the poor house. And wouldn't it be nice if we could create some social safety nets if one day disaster strikes through no fault of your own. Or you always got ol' reliable-- hating on Donald Trump.
Find common ground first, only then when you have something to unite around can you hope to ask questions to get them to at least question some of their beliefs.
