I just finally figured out enough of Unity to make my own ahem content and now they're pulling this shit. Sucks.

Sucks, but Stride is a thing. I think it's less powerful, and harder to use. But completely free to use.

I'm an aspiring VR guy so I'll probably have to go with Godot. I wanna at least finish up my current project in Unity though. I've taken way too many detours already.

      Overwatch is coded in Unity?

Overwatch has their own proprietary engine, I think. Not a gamer so idk. Unless you're making a joke about ahem content, in which I think most of that is done using Source Filmmaker.

Unity is messing around with their pricing structure. It wouldn't really affect small developers but it's kind of a 'straw that broke the camels back' moment for a lot of the industry.

Unity just changed its pricing structure such that if your game gets really popular you owe the company that makes Unity a bunch of money.

The post is suggesting that mass amounts of people download that game, thereby bankrupting the game developer.

lathe-of-heaven By the time Yandere Sim releases, culture will have regressed so far that taking upskirt creepshots of underage girls will be culturally acceptable again. Yandere Dev is playing the long, long game.

What do you mean? It's already out, you just need 3 Tb of RAM to play it

I knew one from back in my college years.

He was actually clean-cut, even preoccupied with how he looked, but he was emotionally and socially repulsive because of his attitude and beliefs about feeemales. He was deliberately LARPing as bateman-ontological

I think weeb is a state of mind. After all, the superficially hygenic and sharply dressed person with the shark-like stare was how I learned about "Yandere Simulator" in the first place. He was an enthusiast for it. Made cafeteria chat really uncomfortable for me.

A surprising number of former neckbeards cleaned up, at least superficially, started to trim up, and often started using this look yes-chad while binge reading self-help books from right wing grifters.

What is yandere simulator? Why is it important that it is in unity (I do understand the current news about unity)?

Oh boy I could write an essay on "what is Yandere Simulator." It's a fucking nightmare of a story filled with obscene levels of drama, kiwifarms, a shitty developer, and a fanbase full of children. CWs for SA, pedophilia, more pedophilia, creepshots, violence, murder, stalking, self harm, suicidal intentions.

Yansim is a game where you play what the developer believes in a "yandere" girl which is a Japanese term that combines sick and love which is often shown as a girl with an extreme obsession with their love interest and will stop at close to nothing to be with them. Yanderedev/Alex is a crappy person with crappy views on women that originally proposed the idea of yandere simulator back in like 2012 to 4chan and was able to pump out a quick tech demo where you played a girl that murdered her love competition. The game is planned to be 10 weeks long with I believe 10 rivals where you murder or disable them each week. They're all dumb anime tropes with even dumber nonsense names made by a man that refuses to ask for advice on making Japanese parody names, something that's done fairly regularly in Japanese media. The rivals range from the childhood friend, the student council president, an occult loving girl, to a teacher basically trying to seduce the girl's love interest. In order to do this you have some help from a faceless character that offers you some help if you take creepshots of girl's panties. Mind you everyone is underaged in this game except for the teachers confirmed by the dev himself though he puts disclaimers up that they're not really under 18 guys believe me. The game has been in development hell for years. Remember how I said there were supposed to be 10 rivals, I believe it took like 7 years for the first one to get implemented. Alex can't stay focused and spent ages creating a "placeholder" first rival rather than putting effort into the first. He continues to add fluff and depth while going out of his way to hard block nifty solutions to the game. I remember there was a quick kill method where you could dump gasoline from the roof onto a girl and she'd be lit on fire pretty quickly letting you finish the run in a few minutes, he then made it impossible making them smell gasoline and dodge.

The drama comes in that Alex is generally a shitty person overall. Deeply misogynistic, he'll make creepy comments on a regular basis and has a waifu insert character. In his videos he'll often have art depicting him murdering one of his characters that represents people with "dumb questions." He'll blame criticism for destroying his mental health and threaten to kill himself. When people were making a replacement version and making better progress on it than he ever did in like 2 weeks, he threatened them with how he'd end up killing himself because they're ruining the only thing he has. He's long defended the panty creepshots and the game has been banned on Twitch as a result. Like I said before the fanbase is basically all children at this point and he continues to make a game that's really not appropriate for the age group but it's how he's still making money like a decade into building the game with like no progress. The feature creep and scope are so unbelievably bad that even good dev teams would struggle.

There's also a lot of stuff about how a lot of "volunteers" that do stuff for him are minors and he's just exploiting them. Since he's not an artist he's been using an asset pack for ages but has insisted that he'll get a new model set eventually but it'll require new animations so the question as to why he's getting a bunch of animations now doesn't make sense either. The game is horribly optimized and it's clear he's not a very talented dev in general. There was a point where he was getting an offer from TinyBuild to fund him and get him additional people to help but that fell through pretty fast.

So in the end with the new Unity model where after 200K installations each installation costs $0.20, he might be looking at some hefty Unity charges since he's been using it as the engine for the game. Most likely it would be the final nail in the coffin and kill the game outright.

        Thanks for the write up.

In regards to yandere, it seems it is an well established term that already did gather clout in research decades ago: https://www.academia.edu/25954969/Yangire_Yandere_a_tour_of_the_poisonous_girls_in_Japanese_animation_and_beyond

Yandere Simulator simulator is mentioned in that article shortly.

I am pondering both the material, social and psychological reasons why it is a popular thing.

It's a game where you play as a teen girl who is obsessed with a boy at school. You have to curry his favor through a bunch of different means. You can kill people that get in your way, or you can join academic clubs. The goal is to be "noticed" by him.

There are a few playthroughs on YouTube, including a Dan and Phil one that is short and sweet
