Damn, I was young then. But I remember the first forum i was active in. Just a couple of goofballs who made a whole website about free / open source games. Back then that shit appeared on google only because there wasnt all this funded content that eventually rose to the top.
You're right though, centralization sucks. I still refuse to use Discord, it's been killing off IRC and other chatrooms. A lot of forums are just a husk after Redd*t took over.
