    All the media figures who were edgy in the 90s are terrified of being cancelled because what is considered socially acceptable has changed so much. That's why seemingly otherwise good people like Matt Taibbi are so vehemently against "cancel culture".

            The eXile's writing was in large part a parody of the depravity of western ex pats in post soviet russia, and they wrote a few passages where they sexually assaulted Russian women. They wrote it as something they did, so people thought it was something that actually happened. Iirc, some reporter followed up, interviewing the women interns mentioned, and they said it was false. Matt also posted a long apology/contextualization on fb. You can probably find the links pretty easily.

            Obviously, something that looks a lot different now than in 90s Russia, even as parody.
