    I mean this is just like a college degree version of most parenting classes run by Planned Parenthood tbh.

    I think we give too much flak to people in the 1900's. This was the era in which industrial society was starting to do massive things with medicine so the idea of "optimizing" child rearing wasn't that far-fetched. It's only weird in hindsight as emotional development wasn't as widely understood.
