The ideology of our time is wrapped into a death worshiping delusion that civilization's burden on the planet is infinite, that the people of the developing world can be held in perpetual bondage as serfs to fuel consumption, profit, and hedonism. The adherents and clergy of this idolatry will gladly continue this exploitation until it destroys their civilization. You know, civilizations do die. They are not immortal. Their path dependence usually includes a caste of power elites who share delusions of immortality and eternal glory right up until civilization reap the fruits of their demise.

Despair is just the realization that your anger is impotent. But as any peoples who have survived tragedy and terror can tell you, that the cure for grief is to grieve. The hosts, and us the listener, must learn to grieve for the loss of paradise and innocence to understand and protect the sanctity of life, human and otherwise.

The point is that our commitment to improving society, or coping with its decline as it were, is that we can't really approach decline as rational actors, because its causes are not rational. It is a delusional myopic evil. And the only ideological idiosyncrasy that people who have struggled for human dignity is an irrational faith and love; a perseverance even in the face of death and oblivion for causes of justice and solidarity. We have to embrace the mania and panic, the psychological energy to defy reality, and make universal paradise reality.

Matt was astute in that episode Antifap: (paraphrasing) we have the resources and manpower to save everybody and we need to tell that to ourselves and others, lest the fascists choose genocide to preserve Cheesecake factories.
