I think you overestimate their ability to keep a stiff upper lip, for lack of a better term. In one cushvlog shortly after the murder of George Floyd and the general uprisings and the sudden, violent, psychotic crackdowns, copaganda, and the first right wing coordinated anti-propaganda campaigns, Matt was on the verge of tears from worry and the sheer terror. I was in a similar state tbh and couldn't eat for nearly two whole weeks until I made the decision to log off r*ddit and twitter entirely until I could get my shit together a little more.

Yeah, being able to watch 24 hour livestreams of people getting fucked up by cops really cranked up my anxieties to 11.

The worst part was the early streams being full of awful reactionary fucks, and social media teeming with what I could only describe as a political narrative counter-attack where they just posted the worst aspects of all the protests, sob stories of the petty bougies, some cops holding signs as final evidence that racism is over, a video of dipshits throwing another protester into the welcoming embrace of cops for gathering stones to throw at the hogs, the first calls of domestic terrorism, culminating with king doo-doo ass himself deciding to designate antifa as terrorists made me lose it for real. The universal solidarity at that point had basically fizzled out as people were already tired of it and started to just collaborate with the cops in open.

If we are talking about the same video, the people who dragged the guy over to the cops were without a doubt undercover cops themselves. If you watch the vid, they are too coordinated and effective with their takedown to just be randos

Guy smashing up the road with a skateboard I think, four or five people just grab him and throw his ass at the cops? I think it's the same one. And yeh, I agree they were undercover hogs, at the time I wasn't thinking too clearly and it was heartbreaking.

Truly soulcrushing stuff. And to think that there were other 'protesters' cheering them on. America has a looooong way to go in terms of protesting properly

The ideology of our time is wrapped into a death worshiping delusion that civilization's burden on the planet is infinite, that the people of the developing world can be held in perpetual bondage as serfs to fuel consumption, profit, and hedonism. The adherents and clergy of this idolatry will gladly continue this exploitation until it destroys their civilization. You know, civilizations do die. They are not immortal. Their path dependence usually includes a caste of power elites who share delusions of immortality and eternal glory right up until civilization reap the fruits of their demise.

Despair is just the realization that your anger is impotent. But as any peoples who have survived tragedy and terror can tell you, that the cure for grief is to grieve. The hosts, and us the listener, must learn to grieve for the loss of paradise and innocence to understand and protect the sanctity of life, human and otherwise.

The point is that our commitment to improving society, or coping with its decline as it were, is that we can't really approach decline as rational actors, because its causes are not rational. It is a delusional myopic evil. And the only ideological idiosyncrasy that people who have struggled for human dignity is an irrational faith and love; a perseverance even in the face of death and oblivion for causes of justice and solidarity. We have to embrace the mania and panic, the psychological energy to defy reality, and make universal paradise reality.

Matt was astute in that episode Antifap: (paraphrasing) we have the resources and manpower to save everybody and we need to tell that to ourselves and others, lest the fascists choose genocide to preserve Cheesecake factories.

    1. The Chapos regularly get upset. To me, Felix in particular stands out. His words get sharper, he starts shouting, and you can tell the issues effect him. This isn't something I hold against him either, it's a healthy normal reaction to atrocities.

    2. I do Jiu Jitsu which involves in large part being restricted in your breathing by heavy people on top of you. Doing anything besides losing always involves breathing as a first step and not panicking as step two.

    3. I like swimming which involves controlled breathing.

    4. I cum too quickly if I don't concentrate on breathing.

I withdraw and brood more often than I restrict my breathing.

unless we get way down the fascism road and start persecuting leftist media personalities.

I wouldn't be surprised if they get all sorts of shit targeted at them by raging chuds. Rich leftist podcasters who make fun of their heroes must be high on their petty shit lists.

Matt has said in one of his vlog that at this point they are grifters and will continue the grift into biden. He made it sound like he feels he owes it to his fan base to grift.

Horrified laughter in the face of tragedy is a reaction that I tend to have, but I'm afraid I can't really tell you how to do it. I'm not sure why my brain reacts this way--I see the absurdity and horror, and I just . . . laugh. It's a coping mechanism--a pressure valve going off, I guess, but I can't really tell you why or how I react this way. Is it healthier than other coping mechanisms? It might seem like it because laughter looks cooler than tears or gasping for breath, but I don't actually think it's any better, really.

For me, it tends to come out as one, loud, explosive HA! Then maybe a few "oh my gods" followed by more laughter.

How old are you? Part of it just age/experience. Right now is worse in a lot of ways, but if you were around during the Bush years or the Tea Party years, it's nothing outside of the imagination.

These guys also met on Weird Twitter, which goes back to the Bad Old Days of 2000s internet forums where an average day had far, far more grotesque content (both in terms of shock value, and just plain old racism/misogyny) than the biggest controversy or bad take or whatever today

OP is probably talking about how we deal with knowing climate apocalypse will kill us all and destroy beyond recognition the few survivors.

If you genuinely think that is the case, log off this website and never think about politics again. You might as well be a hooting Chud if you think we're all doomed - at least they seem to get some pleasure out of it.

Over 25% of Americans in 2005 thought that the Rapture was "imminent". That number has been pretty steady for decades. Climate doomers are the exact same bullshit. It's not scientific. It's a psyop to make you give up.

Climate change is scientific. Doomerism is not. Belief in the Rapture is one of the defining characteristics of American culture, though. Congrats on carrying on a family tradition!

Again, if you seriously believe that an apocalypse is imminent, why do you care about any of this at all? Go have fun with your friends and family.

The entire point of "scientists" telling you that the planet is doomed is to convince you that it's OK to do nothing (Conservatives). Or alternatively, that we need to take drastic measures, sponsored by the IMF of course, to really make people "take accountability" for being greedy American piggies (Liberals).

I just really think the climate-caused famines are close and will turn everything to even shittier. We will survive somehow, but everything will be grimmer.
