Cyberpunk once stood out as a vital genre of anti-capitalist fiction. Today, it’s been reduced to a cool retro aesthetic easily appropriated by the world’s second-richest man to market ugly Blade Runner–inspired trucks to nostalgia-driven Gen Xers.
This is just kind of fucking stupid at this point. The earliest and most influential cyberpunk works were all created by liberals. They are cool stories but expecting them to be some kind of anti capitalist manifesto is a delusion when stuff like Blade Runner, Neuromancer, or Snow Crash were never made by anti-capitalist. Hell, there are probably more communist working in fantasy literature than Cyberpunk.
