We don't operate in the ideological sphere where we are gong to interrogate every user why they downvoted a purely positive trans post. We operate in the material realm where downvotes on postive trans posts made comrades feel like this space wasn't for them. As a leftist i would hope that you agree that some users being accidentally banned is worth it to build a broader movement that is inclusive of all people.
If consistent downvoting was happening to race-related threads as well, the same process would likely be followed. Imagine if every "black lives matter" post had 25% downvotes and black comrades were talking constantly about being turned off because of the underlying racism here. You think it would be responsible of the admins to allow that to continue? I know what matters to me, and it's making my marginalized comrades feel safe and welcome even if it means being heavy-handed with moderation to make it safe.
This apparently happened to some people
First, lol there is never any proof of this, but there IS plenty of people on stupidpol complaining about this. So i mean,,,,
i guess choose who you want to believe. Trans people or stupidpol.
Secondly, some people already got unbanned when they explained why they did their reactionary downvoting. There's an appeal process. This shouldn't be a big deal. Again, i don't see anything wrong with putting marginalized communities first, FOR FUCKING ONCE AND THE FIRST TIME ON THE SITE.
Oh no, someone please think of the people who either had to make a post in UU or spend 5 min making an alt. This is surely more important than the dozens of trans people who have felt unsafe here since day one.
