As we mark the 50th anniversary of the horrific coup in Chile, we must make clear that we regret our involvement and commit to supporting Chilean democracy

Apologize for the coup in Pakistan last week or fuck off

This is really it for me. They trot out their acknowledgements and apologies decades later when it hardly matters anymore, with zero restoration.

We all acknowledge what the CIA did exactly 25 years ago was bad.

But thank god the force of freedom and democracy put a stop to that 25 years ago.

Modern activities are classified for 25 years but you can trust us we stopped doing that stuff 25 years ago.

        DING DING DING DING

they gaslight the victims until they're dead, and then they console the grandchildren with a half assed "whoopsy daisy. our bad. we're better now though! (trust us)"

Yup. These fucks use the horror they unleashed on one country to obfuscate their continued torture of another. Hey wanna make amends? dont call the Capitol a "vaunted temple to democracy" or whatever.

Also we just supported a coup in Peru that is still murdering indigenous people, and these progressives did jack shit when Chile was in crisis and there was the push for a new constitution. They can take their performative shit and shove it

An apology doesn't do anyone any fucking good anyway. I suppose it's better than not apologizing, but it's making an empty gesture even emptier when you know it won't pass.
