In 2021, stores in the UK and elsewhere were putting pictures of food to hide the empty shelves. This was literally the climax of The Interview, in which James Franco realizes that North Korea doesn’t have any real food or any fat children, because food is scarce there and they’re trying to trick westerners.
This is a stupid suggestion considering eggs are pretty much the cheapest American protein staple right now. Yes I know about beans, Americans don't eat them though.
Even with eggs at their peak price, they were still cheaper than any meat, aka what most Americans consider a food necessity.
