In the pandemic’s early days, Dr. Fauci tended to cite the same 60 to 70 percent estimate that most experts did. About a month ago, he began saying “70, 75 percent” in television interviews. And last week, in an interview with CNBC News, he said “75, 80, 85 percent” and “75 to 80-plus percent.”

In a telephone interview the next day, Dr. Fauci acknowledged that he had slowly but deliberately been moving the goal posts. He is doing so, he said, partly based on new science, and partly on his gut feeling that the country is finally ready to hear what he really thinks.

This almost feels like a deliberate attempt to make skeptics trust him less lol

Just astoundingly unprofessional and anti-science. And he's going to keep his job for the next 4 years because of lib meme shit.

Fauci sucks but he’s kinda right here, covid is becoming more transmissible which increases the % needed for herd immunity. By the time we could realistically have herd immunity, the much more infectious variant will probably be established in the US, raising the herd immunity.

I know this might sound intellectually lazy, but I'm at a point where despite the government's lies (including the early anti-mask rhetoric) I still look to Fauci & WHO for most general guidelines. What else is there that's actually reputable?? And also fuck it I'm not intellectually lazy I'm just an averagely dumb human and I'm not ashamed of that.

Most of what we see is just propaganda. Experts don’t get put into their positions because of their knowledge they get put in based on their willingness to accept the status quo.

Fauci has been so professionally successful precisely because he shies away from controversy.
