Yup, also high-end PCs can add better effects, things the designers would have used if they were able to run it on hardware back then.
I remember going back to Final Fantasy 7 ~10 years ago. A game that probably took 12 year old me 60+ hours to beat. With frame skips I think I wrapped up everything (Knights of the Round, Ruby and Emerald etc.) in around 8 hours. There's no way on earth I'll ever play a JRPG again without fast forward.
