today I spent way too much time on the internet and I got into some really petty argument in a comment chain somewhere. And then I asked myself, why do I care? Why do they care? All of this shit is so stupid and irrelevant.

this sounds really edgy but pop culture especially with the assistance of the internet feels so synthetic and absurd, even pervasive in a sense. I'm sure some smart dude can connect all the dots with some analysis. After this Im just left with a really uncanny feeling.

Obviously I have no influence on this on a macroscopic level but as an individual I think disconnecting from most of this would be beneficial.

It is. “Log off” is not a meme it’s an instruction.

Yeah, but also I mean it in a more radical way, like actively abstaining from engaging and consumption even when its not directly harmful and toxic.

Also its in no way limited to pop culture. online “politics” is deeply flawed as well

For sure, online discourse is obviously horrendous, but further than that many aspects of pop culture also reflect ideologies and shape it.

Yes, politics and culture have definitely always been close. I do think the internet is absolutely a game-changer tho, just for its scale and its prominence in everyday life. I cant come up with anything introspective to say about how exactly these conditions affect society for now so I guess I'll have to leave it at this obvious point lol
