People (libs especially) usually see these options for dealing with climate change:

    1. human extinction due to climate catastrophe? naaaaaaaaaaaaaah

    2. global socialist revolution in order to actually steer humanity away from the yawning chasm of destruction (and they view this as a bad ending)

    3. tell other people they just have to have personal responsibility and we can all get through this, feel right about that and good about themselves for spreading the word, and all the while they don't even take responsibility themselves since they enlighten other people, like personal carbon credits

    4. dw about it elon musk and his science inventions will save us

You're right, we have to explicitly fight against that 'argument'. Even moreso because the climate problem isn't going anywhere, we need to raise consciousness and spread our ideals, and by eliminating that third option, when left with options 1 and 2, it can be a powerful tool

granted that does still leave you dealing with 4, which is harder to argue against casually due to the density of the topic, 4 is very very incorrect but why it's incorrect just isn't very intuitive, which is why it makes for such good 'sounds right, can't be disproved' platitude propaganda libs love so much
