Yinlong is the oldest, most basal ceratopsid discovered so far. While most likely not a direct ancestor of Triceratops, Torosaurus or Styracosaurus, it gives us a glimpse into how, when and where these dinosaurs evolved. Yinlong has no horns yet, it doesn't have the parrot-like beak already seen in Psittacosaurus, but you can already see the first signs of what down the line became the typical pronounced neck frills. Like other early ceratopsids, it was bipedal. Yinlong was discovered in Xinjiang Province, China. In the early cretaceous period, its descendants already were common throughout large parts of Asia, and soon made their way to North America, where they became some of the most numerous herbivorous dinosaurs.
