I know I need a good CPU and decently high ram. Im not very knowledgeable about what I need other than that though.

Do you need/want portability for gigs/shows/working in other people's studios? If you're doing any gigging at all I would just bite the bullet and get a Mac laptop since they're the only thing I'd trust in a live setting. OSX is just more stable and predictable. If you're doing a studio desktop then that's a lot less important and you can just build a desktop with whatever the best parts you can afford are. If you build a windows computer I'd just go on ebay and buy a grey-market key for windows10 for like $3 instead of using the shady key tools that windows removes for being viruses.

If you already have a DAW you know then just stick with it I'd think. If you don't know a DAW see if you can do trial versions of different ones and see which one works better for you/works with whatever equipment you already have.

Also if you're buying an interface go for quality instead of input quantity. 2 good channels is more useful than 8 crappy ones.

If you're going for a desktop I'd probably build it myself just so I can cheap out on the graphics card (get an okayish but not expensive one, newer architecture lowend cards aren't as overpriced if they're not good enough for mining I think) and then just go as hard as you can on a nice motherboard with expansion slots and lots of ram and a fast processor. Also I'd probably just go for an all in one water cooling system for the CPU, just make sure its using 120mm fans at least. The larger the fans the slower they can go and the less noise. Also, probably invest in noctua fans for everything they're a loooot quieter.

No I'm not doing any touring or anything, I'm just wanting to work on music and record it. Maybe release an album or EP or something. I've never actually used a daw or anything so this is all pretty new to me. Thank you for the tips though I'll keep that in mind.
