So the Catholics justify this by saying that Mary was without sin and that's why she was chosen. It seems that for Jesus to have been born without sin he needed to be born to someone without sin. This begs the question, though: where did Mary come from? Didn't she need a sinless mother, too? And if original sin started with Adam and Eve and was passed down through the generations, I've got to assume that Mary's ancestors split off before the development of anatomically modern humans?
If my loose interpretation of Catholic theology is correct, Jesus was actually the last neanderthal.

At least in Catholicism, Mary was actually born without sin (she was divinely shielded somehow, iirc) so that she could then birth Jesus. While most people think Jesus was the “immaculate conception”, it was Mary. Jesus was just the “virgin birth”.

Angel: um… god? You made it so all humans are born with sin, remember?

Didn't she ask god to forgive her sins or acknowledge that she sinned? That might be a protestant thing though, catholics go way harder for Mary than protestants
Yeah, Catholicism is bizarre in the way they lift religious figureheads into practically deity status (saints), changing them from regular people into beings that you pray to.
Sounds like Protestants are a little more down to earth with their religious figureheads. Catholics would rather things be Devine than mundane I think.

thanks for apologizing, i didnt assumed youve read the bible lmao, more like i assumed most people are generally aware of the most popular religions enough to know what that someone is probably referring to christianity and then they would be able to google "13 year old girl pregnant the bible" or "90 year old women the bible". im an atheist too before you think otherwise i just have a interest in the world around me. fairy tales is a great comparison, i think most people around the world could hear a description of Cinderella and guess what you were talking about despite it being a french (i think its french) folktale, and it would be odd to meet an English speaker who hasn't heard of it.

A good reason to read the Bible is it's one of the foundational texts of Western society. Then a casual reference to it like this doesn't sail over your head. I'm an atheist and I've read it. Do you also balk at reading literature because it's not literally true?

The point is that the bible is referenced a lot.
It's like how you can never watch a star wars movie but know Darth Vader says something like "Luke, I am your father". Or live in Canada and never watch hockey but know who Wayne Gretzky is. I never read the Quran but know Mohammed went to the mountain.
Unless you plug your ears a lot idk how you wouldn't know at a few bible references if you lived in a Christian-majority country (even if people around you are largely atheist or agnostic)
