thanks for apologizing, i didnt assumed youve read the bible lmao, more like i assumed most people are generally aware of the most popular religions enough to know what that someone is probably referring to christianity and then they would be able to google "13 year old girl pregnant the bible" or "90 year old women the bible". im an atheist too before you think otherwise i just have a interest in the world around me. fairy tales is a great comparison, i think most people around the world could hear a description of Cinderella and guess what you were talking about despite it being a french (i think its french) folktale, and it would be odd to meet an English speaker who hasn't heard of it.

A good reason to read the Bible is it's one of the foundational texts of Western society. Then a casual reference to it like this doesn't sail over your head. I'm an atheist and I've read it. Do you also balk at reading literature because it's not literally true?

Uhh, I would read Moby Dick except you know there isn't really a albino whale that was hunted by a mad sea captain smuglord

Being ignorant isn't something to be proud of

If someone made a "x points to gryffindor" joke and you felt the need to chime in with "what the fucks a gryffindor, why would I know that, you know that story isn't real right" you would be treated much the same way you're being treated now

You are generally expected, for better or worse, to have some level of familiarity with things that exist within the culture of the people you are interacting with

            book of basically bad poems

Do you actually think the Bible is a bunch of poems. Jesus Christ, lmao

Seriously, it's like saying you have to have read harry potter, just 2000 years later.

How would you know? You haven't read it, and I doubt you've read Harry Potter either.

Choosing not to read something means you've chosen to be ignorant of it. That's a choice everyone is free to make, but it also means nobody should take you at all seriously when you talk about it.

You're actually saying it's somehow needed for people in 2023 to read a book of basically bad poems to understand modern society?

I don't know why people are clowning are you. I'm jealous of anyone who never had to experience this wretched bullshit in their lives. I'm forever cursed to be annoyed at stupid fairy tales
