A very dear family member owns, through inheritance and mortgages, three apartments which they rent out. They don't see anything wrong with this, but (from the stories I hear) they seem to be one of those "good" landl*rds. However, they are willing to listen and engage with my anticapitalist ramblings, agreeing on most points. They sometimes joke about selling all of it and donating it to a good cause instead of leaving it to other family members, because that would (somehow) "agree" with my leftie beliefs. My question, Comrades, is what should I suggest they should do with these properties? Unless I am terribly mistaken, they might even listen to what I tell them to do if I present a good argument (which I am currently lacking).

If they're already willing to donate the proceeds from selling the properties, why not just offer to give them to the current tenants? Especially if they've been living there for a while. Nothing they do with the money would bring about real systemic change, anyway, so why not just help out 3 people/families in particular?

I would suggest that, but in one of the apartments tenants rent out rooms and in the others, the tenants leave after a few years, and they would just feel like the current tenants would just sell on very soon after they gave it.
