    I read somewhere that it was actually in the opposite order - that the guy was added in next to Stalin retroactively. You can see a white aura around him suggesting that they wiped away the background and put him there after the picture was taken. I dont actually know the history though

      I don't know anything about this photo, but in the days of film, adding something to a photo was far easier than painting it out.

      Nah, the pic without him in it is the later one.

      The one with him in it isn't lightened. The one without him in it is intentionally overexposed, so that the airbrushing isn't as apparent.
