I very cautiously want to point out that part of the motivation for signing the petition may have been to protest the fact that age of consent for heterosexual acts was different than for homosexual acts in France at the time (15 vs 18)
not a good way to do that though, yikes
I think there was also the fact that under French law certain gross ass sex acts, like incest, were still legal as long as AOC was maintained. So a father grooming is daughter and sleeping with her was okay as long as she was over AOC. But... yeah it’s a fucking weird ass way to illuminate hypocrisy in Frances sex laws, and considering some certain... rumors about Godard I don’t think his motives were totally pure.
Can we seriously not go one day without an AOC struggle session?
Every day here it's like "AOC good", "AOC bad", "French intellectuals sign petition condemning AOC", "After doing a twitch stream about $GME AOC is now the darling of US Libertarians", "Amish are bad because they don't respect AOC", "AOC once again fails to condemn imperialism" like, okay, we get it already.
, there's more meat on the bone in the french article. If you're interested, I can attempt to give you a botched translation, even though I'm not very good at it
let's get to work then 😤
please be patient, I will give it my best but it's gonna take some time. Anyone feel free to reply if you want a ping when it's done
"An open letter signed by 69 people[...] was published in Le Monde, on the eve of the trial of three Frenchmen (Bernard Dejager, Jean-Claude Gallien, and Jean Burckardt) all accused of having sex with 13- and 14-year-old girls and boys. Two of them had then been in temporary custody since 1973 and the letter referred to this fact as scandalous."
