I’ve been talking to my kid about how most of our presidents were raging racists and misogynists, and how we have overthrown democratically elected figures simply for being socialist. Also talked a bit about how we prop up fascist dictators because it helps us unjustly project our power around the globe.

He now knows communism isn’t a dirty word, and that socialism is the workers owning the means of production and distribution, versus a few rich guys holding all the power.

We watched Oliver Stone’s Untold History of the United States together, and he really liked it.

Edit: His other side of the family is extremely pro-Trump, confederate flags, n-word and other racial slurs, communism means to kill babies and brainwash, gay people are evil, vaccines have fetuses and warp your dna, etc. I’ve tried putting a lot of effort into deprogramming him from that shit.
