technically Pelosi lit the fuse when she forced a whole set of pot subsidies into the bill to enable her constituents (dispensaries owned by big corps) to qualify for all that free money. When this Cares 2.0 was passed McConnell was quoted that while he didn't want to keep the unemployment benefits, he was going to kill it due to the pot benefits contained. Pelosi, I believe, has a lot of investment in the medical companies that control most Cali dispensaries and manufacturing for marijuana. The republicans were never going to approve it with the pot pork it contained, and so it was always going to need to go back to the house where she may have fucked with it more.

im also pretty sure this is not actually enforceable in any way and it would still take weeks to implement, by which time congress will have probably passed an extension too, so this really just turns into a pr stunt that they freely gave him cause they didnt figure something out before it fucking expired

It's also a trap, that the Dems will absolutely fall for. Because they'll likely have their AGs sue to stop it. Then he can say, look at this the dems are holding up our help!

No surprise, Dems gave up all leverage with CARES. Republicans basically got a way to pump federal reserve dollars straight to large Corporations with CARES, McConnell and co have no reason to pass anything on Dems terms.

Schumer and Pelosi knew this at the time, but rolled over anyways. Now they're playing hardball with zero leverage because they know Republicans won't actually give in.

They are vile, feckless people who deserve the very worst.

If anyone under 40 even for a second thought there would be enough money in the SS coffers to payout what they're owed, they obviously haven't been paying attention. I for one support putting that money back in our pockets for the forseable future. It's better than them pretending like they're saving it when in reality they using it for whatever they want and promising to pay it back.

Trump's executive orders extend eviction moratoriums and extend payroll tax cuts for employers through the end of the year, although Trump said "if I get elected in November," he may extend payroll tax cuts "permanently."

He didn't do shit and it's not like this will do anything, people are still dying because of systemic negligence that has been blamed largely on him
