A big test of whether privately owned high-speed passenger train service can prosper in the United States has launched. Florida's Brightline runs trains between Miami and Orlando. Stops along the route include Fort Lauderdale, Aventura, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach.
level crossings
201km/h top speed
diesel trains, no catenaries
"high-speed" passenger train service
it's really easy to con americans about this because they don't know any better
My sister used it and it's literally a godsend compared to using the interstate
I'm aware lol, she spent a year in Prauge so even she thinks it's meager at best. But the alternative is so piss poor that even a 30mph coal train would be better
Fun fact! Florida passed a constitutional amendment in the 90s to build high speed rail throughout the state. And then the Florida government just went “Nah, don’t feel like it.” and not a single foot of track was ever laid.
No one got in trouble for this, in 2004 it was cancelled, and in 2018 it was removed in another constitutional amendment vote to “Repeal Prohibition on Aliens' Property Ownership, Delete Obsolete Provision on High-Speed Rail, and Repeal of Criminal Statutes' Effect on Prosecution” because those are obviously related issues.

Holy shit I had no idea.
God what I would give for even this shitty version of high speed rail to go through the rest of the state. Build it to Atlanta you cowards
I like having more rail but for my SO and I to go on a round trip to Miami it would be some $300....
I can't afford it, not when it would take just about as long in a car and only cost $50-60 in gas
