Americans are taught about the concepts of "critical" and "thinking" in the same way they are talk about "politics" and "economics" but never made material as "critical thinking about political-economy".
Can’t agree more. I live in an ocean of liberals and they keep uttering “this country needs more critical thinking” unironically and then be like “oh well I’m sure Rachel Maddow will tell me what to think” whenever any news happens. Their “critical thinking” is like the GOP’s “personal responsibility”
Liberals measure everything relative to Republicans. "Critical thinking" just means you're not as batshit insane as the Tea Party or QAnon. It doesn't mean you actually question your own media choices. Likewise, education means you got a college degree unlike those unlettered yokels. Did you actually receive a good education that gave you a broad understanding of how the world works? No, it was basically job training for one narrow job with a few art history courses thrown in and maybe some economic propaganda as well, but you're still going to pretend like you're smarter than them.
