Craig McCracken absolutely did the right thing quitting the show and forcing its cancellation after 5 seasons and a film, and Cartoon Network were right to leave it the fuck alone afterward (until they didn't, more than a decade later) in favor of Foster's. Otherwise we would've ended up with another stagnant zombie show like what SpongeBob inevitably became, and every one of its contemporaries and successors would have suffered for it.
It took a misunderstanding that turned into a bomb scare (because Boston cops are skittish) to so thoroughly transform the network into the one that rebooted the Powerpuffs and allowed a Teen Titans knockoff to monopolize the channel's live feed.
