I use antennapod for my podcasting, since it's open source, but they still have the top iTunes podcasts listed on the 'add podcast' screen.

From least worst to worst, after only reading the descriptions (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong):

  • The Apology Line - stories about a voicemail box people would call to apologize for things about. Sounds uplifting, I hope.
  • The Bible in a Year - maybe this guy preaches liberation theology, but I doubt it
  • Pillows and Beer (the one without a title) - some sort of reality show star podcast?!
  • 5 different True Crime Porn podcasts
  • Dan Bongino - I gotta love the picture and the fact that I have to hear ads for this guy when I listen to sports on the radio. I swear there were more conservative podcasts on this list the last time I checked.
  • New York Times/The Atlantic podcasts
  • The LINCOLN PROJECT PODCAST!?

I'm not religious in any way, but the bible thing actually sounds like the least worst of this fine selection.

Edit: Didn't see that apology one, maybe that?

Whats he talking about these days? Once he left Twitter I haven't heard from him. Can't find him on Parler either.

I hadn't heard of him either, until I saw him in a list here of top 10 most shared people on Facebook. He is a right-wing blowhard with a podcast. And apparently, its super popular. I've watched his twitter, before he left, and its FRESH right-wing talking points. He is definitely upstream in that fake news bubble near the source. He was a co-founder of Parler as well. So he was promoting it like crazy. I've never listened to his podcast, so ihave no idea what he is talking about now. But if its at all like his tweets were, he is ALWAYS angry and complaining about democrats and the left.

Oh the other thing, he would get hundreds of likes and dozens of comments within 60 seconds of every tweet. I always assumed it was mainly sock puppet accounts because of that.

I don't use itunes for podcast because android, I use pocket cast but it's the same situation in there.

The first time I saw their popular podcast page I had to set my phone down and take a few breathes. The absolute nonsense people listen to....

I agree with you completely, but I must like the punishment. I went further down the pod-hole so you don't have to.

More of the popular podcasts - Ben Shapiro, Dax Shepard, a podcast for “high-achieving feminist women,” and a pod called “third degree” that’s all about the new Trump impeachment trial. :agony-deep:

A lot of actors are doing podcasts now due to Covid. Which sounds harmless, but it is taking listeners away from people that earn a living by making interesting podcasts.

A lot of writer/comedians have podcasts, but the good ones were already around pre-Covid. And it makes sense, since they're often trying out material. Actors are another story.

From a quick search I see that Dax, Anna Faris, Justin Long, Jonathan Van Ness, and Paris Hilton have podcasts now. And I can't forget Michelle Obama or Hillary's libcasts!

            Dax, Anna Faris, Justin Long,

Why don't they just make one podcast together?

Crime Junkie is really the only true crime podcast I can tolerate. They do a good job of being victim-focused and have a mountain of episodes showing how incredibly inept cops are at their jobs, including a few about cops and military leaders that went on to be serial killers (surprise!)

That sounds much better than the others I've had recommended to me, including My Favorite Murder. I might check it out, I was big into true crime podcasts in my lib days.

I stopped using pocket casts because they kept making UI changes and they hide played episodes, rather than greying them out. I know this seems like a small detail, but it is completely antithetical to how I want a podcast app to function. Unless they turned that feature back on, or I'm wrong.

I looked around at the Spotify, Edison Research, chartable, and podtrac charts too and they were no better (or worse) than what iTunes has. They could all be rigged, and I expect it at this point.

Ben Shapiro is the #2 podcast on a few of those. I went to high school with guys that listen to every Ben Shapiro episode, and still can't get why people listen. Jordan Peterson I get, but Ben is like a cross between a Fox News host and Ted Cruz. And none of these guys watch Fox News or listen to Rush Limbaugh.

I listened to a couple of Ben's 'best' episodes recommended by an old classmate (they were hard to listen to) in good faith. In return they listened to the Qanon Anonymous podcast. They still listen unless the topic/title is too 'political' - they're a 'centrist' Republican that didn't understand Qanon.

This person was interested in history and cults, so I recommended a couple episodes with that in mind, and it helps that QAA can be genuinely hilarious.

The left can pod well enough that even Republicans will subscribe, is what I'm trying to say. I'm glad QAA is on a trending list, and I wish more folks would give leftist podcasts a chance. Sorry for the rant.

I use antennapod, too. Fun fact: It lets you set different countries for that top podcasts list to see what dumb lib shit they're up too, as well. It's bad all over, folks.

Its worse than that! I scrolled through the most popular ones hoping to find Chapo, because I switched to an iPhone and wanted to subscribe. I passed podcasts by: Ted Cruz, Bongino, various Fox News personalities, Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, ....I can't think of the rest, it was basically ALL OF THE BAD guys, each further up than Chapo.

Fuck, Father Mike has a podcast? Why does everyone have one?
