Collect all gold bricks (about 90ish), all minikits, finish the story and collect enough studs (coins). You get a “bonus” for doing all of that in under an hour

Is this what people are referring to when they say they’ve “finished” a game? Or are most just talking about the story? I’m just curious how many others view video games this way

and yeah what you're describing is "100%'ed" or "platinum" or something similar, "finished" or "beat" generally just means the main story

"beat" usually means simple finish of the critical path and any denouement/ epilogue/ the slide show at the end of new vegas.

people will usually be more specific if they did a 100%/"platinum trophy"/NG+ 3x true ending/did a speedrun/paid EA for a better conclusion to mass effect 3

I almost never 100% a game. They too often give me the most tedious chores that would make me hate the game.

I consider a game finished when I've completed all the content i wanted to do in it. That can range from 100% or quitting on the last level cos its a drag and watching the ending on youtube

I consider a game "finished" if I've beaten all the main and optional story content and cutscenes and conversations and the like. I usually only care about collectables if they add new story scenes (like the Riddler stuff in Batman or optional collectables in Persona). Other than that, I'll only really collect things if it's a story-based game and it feels "canon" to collect them, if that makes sense.

To me I've finished a game if I've completed the main story quests and any story or content rich 'post game' content.

I've never felt the impulse to 100% any game except The Binding of Isaac Rebirth, and that's more because the average run is just the perfect length and pacing for me to play on a treadmill or stationary bike and I enjoy doing runs to check off boxes

I'm surprised it's even possible to do all of it under an hour, you have to play through a lot of the stages at least twice with different unlocked characters, and getting enough studs to unlock the golden one is time consuming.

I think finished is different than 100%ing a game in my vocabulary. I played too many of those collect-a-thon games as a kid to know it's too tedious to 100% stuff. I got like 2 platinum trophies in my life I think

Two of the categories I keep my Steam library in are “Complete” and “Finished but Not Complete “
