William Z. Foster, born on this day in 1881, was a radical American labor organizer and Marxist politician whose career included serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) from 1945 to 1957. He was previously a member of the Socialist Party of America (SPA) and the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), although he was critical of the former for not working with already existing unions.
Foster was a key figure in the drive to organize the packinghouse industry during World War I and in instigating the Steel Strike of 1919. He was the more radical, pro-Soviet political rival of CPUSA leader Earl Browder, who was a supporter of the Roosevelt administration.
Foster was also a prolific political writer, and his work "Towards Soviet America" has been continuously republished by both leftists and anti-communists who see it as scandalous. Foster described the book as a "plain statement of Communist policy, avoiding technical complexities and theoretical elaboration...Its central purpose is to explain to the oppressed and exploited masses of workers and poor farmers how, under the leadership of the Communist party, they can best protect themselves now...".
The American Party of Labor claims descent from Foster and his secretary and aide, Jack Shulman.

Playing the metro games is a whiplash of incredible scale. The first two games depict communists and fascist as the same, then the third game takes a full 180, with it depicting the metro status quo as something inflicted by paranoid military, and it praises Mao and Che in some dialogue in the game. I am so confused as to what happened lol.
If I remember correctly the factions were a lot less played out in the book, but the dude is without a doubt a liberal. The videogames are the product of feeding a Russian liberal's politics through a German/Austrian studio. Also the story/setting is passing though multiple layers of translation by the time it becomes an English game.
I only read the first book though.

Well the first two games do the anti communist shit, with the final fight being a wave of communists soldiers coming to steal the d6 vault. While the third game the status quo of metro is being set in place by the lib faction, with them blocking communication to the outside.
The characters discuss maos little red book if i remember correctly, and that Che continued to be a freedom fighter which caused a early death while Mao grew older as a countries leader. This is related to a character who isn't sure if he should stay with his people or stay with the main characters group.
I'm trying to be kinda vague just in case you play lol.

I think they may have changed it to the lib faction (can't remember their name lol) because it creates a character arc for Miller, with him deciding that family and community is better than following orders.
