    Watching the first two episodes it seems to be a revolutionary message in that feudal lords and their military commanders are displayed as abhorrent and that if you wield military power there needs to be something that holds you to humanity (which could be a community of values and more importantly, other powerful actors).

    It seems that the exploitation of the working people is also exemplified and it is underlined again and again that valuing yourself too highly if you are in battles of force is a problem, though there is quite a bit plot armor for a few. Still it is good to be aware that there is real power and not seldom in crisis it stems from the barrel of guns.

    There seems to be quite a bit of alienation of Guts to other people, which seems to be caused not by individual actions, but also structural and systemic ones.
