The carnist wants to believe that they are inherently superior to any non-human animal and that this superiority gives them the right to torture and hack up their fellow creatures for their own pleasure. One reason among many that veganism tends to offend them so much is that it strikes at their ego, their belief that by virtue of their birth they are the apex of creation, and thus entitled to consume and discard those with whom they share this Earth as they please.
The owl trying to bring back milk-drinker as an insult was well-intended. The backlash and all the vocal support for animal abuse on this site was .
That thread and the more recent Deprogram veganism thread were painful. A whole lot of people get very offended if you dare imply they aren't the supreme beings on Earth.
Absolutely, two common reactions I've gotten throughout the years:
"let's talk at length about this, and you should have the answer in depth with all facts and figures to any question I ask and I don't have to have any of that yet I'll strongly defend anything I believe and also make shit up as we go along".
And
"I'm going to pretend you're not here, but also give you stink eye all night, and make a show of not laughing when others are for something you've said, and if anything related to diet and lifeatyle comes up I'll talk shit about your choices but only towards the other people to get conformation and make you feel like you're not even worth breathing towards".
It's so extremely childish and idiotic, sadly that's all one can expect from most carnies.
Yup! I've actually avoided spending much time here the last 2 or so days, because I can just feel that carnists are starting their shit again and I want no part of it. I really appreciate the vegan posters who have the time and energy and desire to engage with carnists recently. I can't do it myself this time, but if you're a vegan reading this who has argued with a carnist in the last week, thank you, sincerely! It sucks so hard to see posters you've agreed with in other contexts show up with extremely bad reactionary arguments as soon as they get even a smidge of pushback on their carnism.
Veganism is a completely unreasonable expectation and our rhetoric around it is alienating potential comrades.
So anyways, here's why we should all be communists...
