land acknowledgements are pre-colonial practice in a lot of cases though

certainly ripe for cooption, but in the right place they're a little foothold to jam settler culture

Opening a gathering by acknowledging the people that live there pre-dates european settlers?

It is important to note that this kind of acknowledgement is not a new practice developed by colonial institutions. Land acknowledgement is a traditional custom dating back centuries for many Native communities and nations.
