The Metal Gear Solid series really trips me out sometimes. Like, the themes it touches on are really serious, but it's done in such a goofy way with weird jokes peppered in. How can a game about war and child soldiers be so silly?!
Unlike Metal Gear, Svejk is consistently silly. It doesn't have serious
heartfelt monologues on nature of brotherhood and loss or whatever sandwiched between two poop jokes.

I would a Japanese comrade to explain their cultural "lens" to me.
There is so much anime, JRPG stuff, manga stuff, that I don't understand that I feel like I have a disease.

Have you read "Good soldier Svejk"? It's strongly anti-war and yet it consists of weird jokes.

There are short serious bits about pointlessness of war, but they turn into absurd jokes. very quickly.
war has changed, for one thing
