Why do we all love Garfield so much? Nothing wrong with it of course, but it just seems so odd. Logically, I should kinda hate Garfield because of how detached it became from itself. He's also such an objectively mundane character, with pretty much nothing funny to really do besides being lasaga cat. How does Garfield still manage to keep our collective hearts for decades after the fact?
I ask this as someone who also fucking loves Garfield and cannot even explain why I love Garfield. On paper, one of the least compelling pieces of media I can conjure in my head. I know someone whose special interest is Garfield, and not even they know why they like Garfield. How can such a massive phenomenon be so difficult to explain to people? I find it very interesting
