Kshama Sawant is a Seattle councilwoman and proud Socialist. She fought for and won the first $15 minimum wage and is a leading figure in pushing for fully taxing Amazon. Her opposition is funded with millions upon millions from corporate donors and Jeff Bezos, who have failed twice to defeat her at the ballot box due to strong organizing by SA and the community. A right-wing recall campaign was built up kickstarted by anger that Kshama let BLM protesters into city hall, which has been turbocharged by capitol.

We must hold the line, they're not just going to come for Kshama, she'll just be the first of many socialists. Only through solidarity can we achieve our goals and destroy capitalism. We must stand together, a United Front, and fight for each other so that they may fight for us in turn.

If you can, please donate, $5, $10, $20, $50, whatever you can manage. It's covid time in hellworld, so don't feel bad if you can't donate, but please spread the word!

(Edit: If you do end up donating, if you could comment saying so and how much, it helps us out down the road.)

(Edit #2: If you're unable to donate but would still like to help out in some way, here's the volunteer link! https://www.kshamasolidarity.org/volunteer)

Hello there! I’m an activist who’s currently volunteering for the campaign to stop the right-wing recall of Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant. I have been trying to find ways to spread awareness of this recall in hopes of rallying support, and recently, I remembered someone telling me about Chapo having their own site, so I figured I’d knock 2 birds out with 1 stone and stroll on over to check it out :)

(P.S. I’m sorry if /c/politics isn’t the proper place for a thread like this)

Hey look, someone recognizing Chapo, working with a leftist organization, and using that association to find this site.

The exact thing @TransComrade69 said was a problem and would deter orgs.

Kshama's awesome and I hope she runs for higher office one day, keep up the great work.

:sankara-salute: Godspeed comrade. How close is this recall to actually winning? Kshama is a treasure

Well the opposition is vastly outraising kshama, but that's to be expected as they're backed by corporate interests including Jeff Bezos himself. Covid has put a stop to in person canvassing and fundraising, so stuff like this is how they're getting their support.

        Every dollar counts

They really, really hate her don't they. They can't even wait out the two year term to take another shot at getting rid of her. I hope she stays winning and they continue being extremely and increasingly mad about it.

I managed to catch a stream of that assembly in the city hall building live when it happened. It was an incredibly cool thing to see.

Idk why the comment was deleted, but it said "kshama is the best politician"

Which is why they're focusing on unseating her first. Then they'll go down the line from best to worst, after kshama they'll go after Lee Carter and the squad

The squad has been subservient enough that they don't need to go after them. Even now when they have the numbers to force concessions from the Democratic party, they don't.

they don't need to but are you gonna tell me that means they won't do shitty things to brown women just because they can?

She's obviously way better than whoever would replace her in a recall, so I threw in $20

Just wondering though, I know she's in a Trotskyist party but is she one of those annoying "China/Cuba/Vietnam etc. are 'deformed worker's states' that need another revolution" trots? Because I don't see a future with "socialist" politicians who wouldn't work with actual socialist countries if the time came

Yeah, seems like modern Trots have shed a lot of the 20th century baggage they carried around. Probably a bit harder to criticize those socialist projects when they keep fucking winning over and over again.

What kind of wacko leftist would be down on Cuba? A poll of any random American population nowadays (outside of Miami) is pretty much statistically neutral on Cuba.

Vietnam and China is a funny pairing tbh, considering how much the two countries are always on the brink of open hostility. Familiarity breeds contempt and all that. Plus mainland China may have the only people in all of Asia (East, South, Southeast, take your pick) who don't find Vietnamese food impossibly delicious.

(Side note: my phone autocorrected to 'corporations' when I wrote countries up there. I will ssume the airplane position in contrition. :xi-shining: )

Wait I was wrong, since it's donations to a campaign it's US citizen or greencard holder apparently

My understanding is you cannot provide financial support legally

I did text/telebank for Bernie from Canada, that is allowed

Volunteering is ok, just not in person :(
