I tried agitating on that post and some :centrist: redditor asked why my comment history is mainly calling out racism, and said I needed to go to therapy because I was seeing racism everywhere. Maybe it's because, I dunno, reddit is full of that shit, especially in online South African circles which are full of apartheid apologists? Like should I just let racist shit go unchallenged? R*dditors ffs, why are they like this?
Redditors have this really virulent type of brainworm where they think racism has to be 100% irrational and disconnected from material reality to count as racism. If you have any reason at all, any rationalization for your attitudes, then it doesn't count as racist to them. And of course since racism is usually tied up in economical, social, and political issues, this means most types of racism aren't racism. I've had redditors try to argue that it isn't racist to distrust black people because black people commit more crime. They weren't even talking about implicit bias, they just straight up think you should be allowed to treat black people differently because of national crime stats.
