Green tea is relatively low caffeine at roughly 50mg per 250 mL as compared to coffee (up to 250mg, brew method and beans depending) and black tea (roughly 100 to 150mg). If you're trying to step down, black tea is a good middle step.
It has less significantly less caffeine so it may not give you the same boost. Caffeine pills are very cheap and you can get them in 100 mg tablets, which is roughly the same as a cup of coffee.
Sugar can also def. make up for the difference between tea and coffee in a pinch
