I think growing up in a world of streaming instead of cable (ie having immediate access to stuff from every era) people tend to develop more diverse tastes.

That already started with cable. Pre-cable is the last time you had everyone watching from the same 4 channels. Millennials already have diverse tastes relative to Gen X, who all watched the same shitty sitcoms and Hanna Barbera cartoons. Not disagreeing with what you said. Just adding more context to it.
