If you have an Xbox or a windows pc you can buy game pass for a month for 1 dollar, and then I’m pretty sure they have 1 or 2 jackbox games on there. That’s more of a party game than a multiplayer experience but with 6 people it is really fun. You can probably find the list of jackbox games on game pass by looking it up, only one person needs to own the game for it to work. I would reccomend crusader kings but multiplayer is tricky to set up and it’s definitely more complex than ticket to ride
Unironically roblox. I've spent hours dicking around with friends on there as mid 20 somethings. Moon speed run 4 is just plain dumb fun.
Board game arena is free and has a lot of board & card games of varying complexity (from very simple to hella complex).
However, if you want to host games on board game arena, one person in your group will need a paid account which is 2$ a month.
Project zomboid can be customized to be as easy as you want. It's a very big open world with zombies.
Diablo 3 is almost braindead-easy, might depend on how many hours you have in arpgs. Only free if you want to play on a work-in-progress private server.
Grim Dawn is basically better d3 but you need some thought if you want to go to the hardest difficulty. There's a d2 mod and a couple that make the game more streamlined.
I think MCC can be cheap if you get one game but it's fun and definitely not nerd shit.
Valheim and the Forest are just survival and base building, both pretty simple.
Dos2 and Baldurs Gate 3 are kind of nerd shit but fun, I didn't think they were too hard to get into. Bg3 is in early access though.
Swat 4 could be a good choice because it's possible to ignore the penalties in multiplayer. You'll want the swat elite force mod though.
Besides d3 and MCC, all of these either have direct connect or work pretty easily with radmin. Most of them are on gog too.
Phasmophobia is fun!! Its for PC, it is $14 and each person needs a copy, but I've logged like a hundred hours playing with my friends. You use ghost hunting equipment to find out what type of ghost is haunting the house, school, prison, or asylum, and it uses voice recognition in a lot of cool ways. The ghosts are listening...
