of course resolution is king and I really don’t want to get into a massive debate over this. When you go from 1080 to 4K, the game changes entirely. Now one person in the argument is pushing this idea that the brain or eyes can only process 1080 anyway. If this science is true then whatever but it doesn’t really say much if I can tell the difference between 1080 and 4K. I’m of the opinion that resolution makes the game play miles better than playing on a console with really poorly optomised hardware. I made the point that console companies like Sony, Nintendo and Xbox stayed with standard HD for the consoles only recently. Perhaps you had the option to buy one of their PRO consoles which added maybe 2K or even 1440p, pretty sure ps4 pro can only do 1440p at 60fps. Only recently have consoles made 1080p the standard which is just consumerism in a nutshell. I would really appreciate if 2K was the standard and if everyone had the option to play above 2K from the start (PS4 / XBOX 1 generation). It really makes a difference. I’m more mad at the fact console companies are having people debate that 1080p is obviously better just because they’re accustomed to that resolution but I just think that it’s wrong. Why wouldn’t more pixels = better visuals?

This is a 10+ year old meme. You fell for a bit.

Yeah. The real heads know that in actuality our eyes can't see more than 24 frames per second.

As someone who has never owned a monitor or television with a resolution higher than 1080p, I can say with full confidence that it's adequate.

It depends on how big the screen is in your field of view. A 4K phone screen wouldn't make much sense, and I wouldn't think a 4K laptop screen would be worth it. But a big TV or projector? That's noticeable.

I have a 3840x1600 monitor (which is almost 4k) at 120hz and 10bit color and its a fucking game changer. I love this thing, and playing games on it is so fucking amazing. Especially RDR2.

Requires a beefy computer to run, but its definitely a huge improvement. 1440p resolution is also a good stopping point if you want to go beyond 1080p but can't get a good enough gfx card.

plebs with 4K, bet you don’t even have 48 bit color resolution with 10000 nits peak brightness, if the sun in games doesn’t blind you and gives you cancer, what is the point?

Framerate is more important than resolution. 1440p@144 is the sweet spot right now (@120 or @90 if your computer isn't that good) and is arguably better than 4K@60. You can also get in to shit like color depth and peak brightness, but eh.

But overall more is better. Something insane like 32K@480 would obviously and objectively be way better, but diminishing returns do come in to play.
