I know it makes this site more vulnerable to trolls and wreckers, but there was a certain comfort in remaining anonymous. Was this quietly changed with the new site?

I haven't seen a request for location tracking, but the first time I got redirected to hexbear, chrome asked me if I wanted to allow notifications. This morning I also saw the bug where I had my profile open and when I came back to that tab a few hours later it was streaming new comments. Shit's been a bit buggy lately.

So if that account was dormant for 2 months you sure you didn't just ban someone because they got a request for notifications on first load and didn't know the difference? It's pretty clear they have no idea what they're talking about.

There's also a massive difference between tracking location and recording IPs. The title doesn't match up with the commentary at all. 🤷‍♂️

Yup, I'm pretty technologically illiterate, and this throwaway account was the only password I remembered (obv I signed up with a new acct to make this comment). I saw a popup notification in my browser asking for data and I came here to suss it out. But if that paranoia of ill intention on my part is the impulse of the community, maybe it's best I not participate.
