I'm pretty sure it's a religious group that makes those animations. I have always liked them but they are nice pieces of art, not pieces of systemic historical analysis. It has the details down, showing how various empires have controlled the area, but it always felt to me like it's making a "mankind just keeps greedily wanting and what's to be done?" sort of statement.
