I mean obviously the Biden admin, the Trump admin, and the press are all colossal liars and not to be trusted but I can't see how they reconcile this specific thing

Journalists were holding Trump accountable! Biden doesn't need to be held accountable -- Democrats are all things good.
I think some liberals have genuinely shifted from "we must defend the press" in 2016 to over time "fuck the press" in 2018 to "volcano the press" in 2021. Like, the NYT/WaPo posted so many op-eds from Republicans (the infamous Tom Cotton one where he wanted the streets to drown with protestor blood) and other miscreants that liberals realized they shouldn't be paying for a newspaper that utterly despises them.
The White House press corps is a collection of ghouls, shills, and hacks. I see absolutely nothing wrong with dunking on this basket of losers and shaming them into non-existence if at all possible.
The White House Press Secretary is also a massive shameless lying shill and taking anything she says at face value is about as wise as buying weed from a Cum Town podcast sponsor.
