        what kind of ceiling do you have? are you allowed to install stuff like shelves (aka drill a couple holes in a wall)

            you could install a shelf that's just far enough below the ceiling to wedge the subwoofer? I'm sure there's some part of some wall in some room that's near the center of the overall floorplan. Better yet, if you know where their bed is, right underneath it

            also by type I suppose I meant texture, as in there are like 3M sticky pads n stuff that could work depending on how big your sub is and the texture of your ceiling

                yeah considering it's a machine designed to create vibrations that's a bit sketchy, but maybe if you also used a fuckload of duct tape AND the ladder...
